"Narcissus Of Pompeii Grand Tour "
We present this bronze sculpture, a Neapolitan cast after the Narcissus of Pompeii. This sculpture comes from what is known as the Grand Tour. In wealthy bourgeois families, a son would set off on the Grand Tour, visiting Europe, particularly Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, and Belgium. The father granted an allowance to the designated son, who would then visit museums and antique shops, collecting works of art, paintings, and antiquities. Our sculpture comes from the journey of a son from a prominent family. This Grand Tour existed from the mid-16th century, throughout the 17th century, and reached its peak in the 18th century. The English practiced the Grand Tour, which is written and pronounced in French. Its heyday continued into the 19th century. Our bronze dates from after 1862, as it was discovered in 1962. Therefore, it's a casting from around 1870, but several qualities must exist, as ours is exceptionally beautiful, with a quality of chasing and a patina certainly close to the original.
