Polish School. Oil on cardboard, "Beautiful Seamstress Surrounded by Beautiful Paintings," signed and dated lower left on the support of the small footrest: Lucien Przepiorski, 1876 (date to be confirmed). Polish School. 41 x 33 cm (64 x 57.5 cm overall). Lucian Przepiorski (Lucien) was born in Vilnius (Lithuania, Russian Empire) in 1831 and died in Paris (France) in 1911. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg (Russian Empire). Proudly asserting his Polish citizenship, he was seriously wounded in 1863 while participating in the January Uprising, losing a leg. The following year, exiled by the Russian authorities, he reappeared in Paris, where he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. The National Museum in Warsaw (Poland) holds his Portrait of the Artist and Portrait of the Artist's Mother. The Louvre Museum in Paris displays The Salon Carré of the Louvre from 1875. The National Center for Visual Arts owns a landscape purchased in 1884, which has been on deposit at the French Embassy in Madrid (Spain) since 1887. The frame is made of wood and stucco decorated in imitation of gilding, modern style. There is damage and a small piece missing from the top of the cardboard. Overall good condition. €2300
