**************

Pewter wine pitcher with a shouldered shape, flared foot, straight-sided bowl, and S-shaped thumb rest with a molded crest. Incompletely applied control mark: crowned C / (169)1/ V(ERNON).
Mark of S. ESTIENNE, received as a master around 1750: crowned star / three small flowers / S.E.
Height: 24.1 cm.
VERNON (Upper Normandy), Second half of the 18th century.

In very good condition.
Rare provenance and only the second recorded example in nearly fifty years, conforming to the Upper Normandy typology, although the thumb rest is of the Parisian type, attesting to the influence of the geographically close capital.
Bibliography:

"Les pichets d'étain" by Charles Boucaud.
