JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). Complete samurai armor. KABUTO (helmet) in lacquered iron topped with horsehair to represent hair. SHIKORO (neck guard) with five tiers in brown lacquered iron imitating leather and braided with blue silk. MABI SA SHI (visor) in lacquered wrought iron with reliefs depicting furrowed brows and forehead wrinkles. FUKIGAESHI (wings) in black lacquered iron. MAETATE in gilded copper in the shape of a disc. MEMPO (half-mask of a samurai) in lacquered wrought iron, with a pronounced chin, movable nose, horsehair mustache, pierced nostrils, red lacquered lips, black lacquered exposed teeth, and a sweat hole under the chin. YODARE-KAKE (gorget) with three tiers in wrought iron lacquered brown to imitate leather and braided with blue silk. DO (breastplate) of the Abara Dou type in metal lacquered to imitate leather, revealing an emaciated torso with a prominent sternum and ribs. SODE (shoulder guards) with seven tiers in metal lacquered brown to imitate leather and braided with blue silk. KOTE (arm guards) in chainmail. KUSAZURI (skirt) and HAIDATE (thigh guards) with five rows in brown lacquered leather and braided with blue silk. SUNEATE (greaves) in lacquered iron plates and braided with blue silk over green quilted fabric. Sold with a double GUSOKU BITSU (carrying chest) in wood with metal reinforcements and with its display stand. Dimensions of the armor in a seated position: 140 x 81 x 39 cm.
