Cat And 3 Kittens By Daniel Merlin (french, 1861 - 1933)
Artist: Daniel Merlin
This charming scene depicting a cat and her three kittens is the work of the French painter Daniel Merlin (1861 Audigny - 1933 Paris).
Merlin was a prolific painter of cats and kittens. His canvases, typical of the 19th century, are reminiscent of the style of Henriette Ronner-Knip. A student of the history painter Jean-Paul Laurens, he exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1884. Passionate about felines, he studied them with great attention, which explains the multitude of endearing paintings he produced. His works frequently appear at auctions and in private collections. The artist died in Paris in 1933.
