Precious Pair Of Harem Mules - Ottoman Empire, Late 18th Century
Late 18th, early 19th century, Ottoman Empire. A precious and very old pair of mules for the harem in the Ottoman Empire. The rigid, curved shape is covered in pink silk satin with a pointed vamp. They feature rich tughra embroidery in silver foil with a cardboard core and gold bullion in relief. The edges are trimmed with pleated cream taffeta ribbons, which are badly damaged, and the sole is made of brown split leather. There are scratches, minor soiling, and a few pulled threads in the embroidery. However, they are in stable condition. Ottoman mules from such an early period are very rare. Dimensions: approximately 25 cm x 8 cm.
