Pair Of Gilt-lacquered Wood Altar Attendants, Vietnam Or Southern China, 19th Century

A fine pair of gilt-lacquered wood altar attendants, each figure standing serenely on a lotus base and holding an offering bowl. The faces are calm and rounded, with tall ornate headdresses typical of Vietnamese or Southern Chinese religious statuary of the 19th century. Rich remains of original gilding over a red-brown lacquer ground. Mounted on later wooden plinths. Likely from a domestic or temple shrine.

Height: 29 cm (including bases)

Condition: Good, with minor wear and small losses to the gilding and lacquer consistent with age.
