The old painting Still Life with Flowers, offered here, is an oil painting on panel from the late 19th century
and is housed in an antique frame gilded with pure gold leaf. Rose flowers.
It depicts a beautiful vase of pink and white roses, arranged naturally in an elegant and balanced composition.
The delicately rendered green leaves and flowers emerge from a dark, neutral background that
enhances their luminosity and delicate tones. The brushstroke is controlled, smooth, without obvious marks,
typical of the 19th-century French tradition.
Antique Paintings on Panel, Still Life, dated 1883 and signed lower left by Jules Contencin, a French painter,
who worked primarily in portraiture and figurative painting.
Jules Joseph Étienne Contencin (1851-1925) — also known by his signature "Istres Contencin" —
a French painter of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The oil painting and frame have been carefully and professionally restored.
