Fernand Maillaud was part of the group of post-impressionist and symbolist artists that formed in 1891 around Paul Gauguin. He made his debut in 1896 at the Salon des Artistes Français. He regularly exhibited a work there each year until his death. He later won a gold medal at the same Salon. From 1895 to 1902, Fernand Maillaud spent the summer in Fresselines, near Crozant. He became friends with Maurice Rollinat and met Allan Österlind, Jean Geffroy, Armand Dayot, Lucien Descaves and the young Bernard Naudin. He illustrated novels by Henri Bordeaaux, Gabriel Nigond, Jules Renard....Our work, treated in black and white monochrome, is signed at the bottom left, it is titled on the back: "It's from Paris. It's from Tonkin", numbered 37 and annotated: page 276, unfortunately the name of the novel is not mentioned. New frame.
