Pair Of Retour d'Egypt Consoles With Winged Griffins, Late 18th Century

An important pair of console tables from the Retour d'Egypte period, dating back to the late 18th century, of Sicilian origin. They feature a simple and elegant line with a slightly flared upper band, inlaid in the center and purfling at the end. The upper section is supported at the back by squared wooden slats and at the front by two finely carved zoomorphic figures depicting winged griffins, resting on a square base that in turn rests on two large onion-shaped feet. The console tables are all crafted from slabs and solid apricot wood. The elegance and high quality of the carving, executed by the Sicilian cabinetmakers who crafted them at the time, is noteworthy. The console tables are in excellent condition and were personally restored by us in our restoration workshop.
