Luigi XV Chest Of Drawers, Fully Carved, Venice, 1715–1750

Important Venetian Louis XV chest of drawers from the first half of the 18th century. The chest, entirely veneered in walnut, features a simple and elegant design typical of Louis XV-period furniture. The front of the piece features a crossbow-style design, with a small drawer immediately below the top and two larger drawers beneath it, adorned with inlay work crafted from walnut veneer and walnut burl. The sides of the piece also feature a design that curves outward. On the front, the drawers are separated by striking, intricately shaped moldings made of solid walnut and all cut end-to-end. The lower section of the cabinet features arched and shaped legs, typical of Venetian craftsmanship, with remarkable carved detailing, ending in claw-shaped feet topped with a sphere. The top of the piece is also veneered in walnut, with an all-around frame shaped like an owl’s beak, made of solid walnut and also crafted entirely from end-grain wood. The piece is completed by its beautiful set of gilded bronze handles. As you can see from the photos, the piece is entirely original and retains its original wrought-iron rivets (see photos).
