Oil on relined canvas, 42 cm x 34 cm.
Frame 62 cm x 50 cm.
This charming painting, which is part of private devotion, seems to be an example of a Flemish prototype transposed into a Lombard or Venetian workshop. We can clearly see the two influences, notably those of Erasmus Quellinus II on the Flemish side and the Nuvolone family on the Italian side. This mixture of influences was common in 17th-century Italy. Many Flemish painters visited the region as part of the Grand Tour, many decided to work there for a while, others settled there permanently. These artists painted for themselves or for workshops, which were numerous in the region. We believe that our painting was created in this context, by a Flemish painter. Regarding the workshop, perhaps that of Giuseppe Nuvolone.
