Precious Empire period cage clock circa 1805, signed on the dial by Benisart in Paris, a clockmaker listed in the Tardy dictionary of French clockmakers.
Mahogany veneered wood construction, glazed on all four sides and decorated with gilded frames.
French-polished varnish provides contrast, brightness, and protection.
Large, domed white enamel dial with partridge-eye hands, a mercury-gilt bronze surround finely chiseled with palmettes, protected by domed glass.
The interior is equipped with a mirror reflecting its mechanism and its pendulum lens, also in mercury-gilt bronze, suspended from a hardened steel rod.
Original mechanism without modification, striking on the hours and half-hour on an antique bell.
