Biedermeier Cabinet, Attributed To Gle Laves, Hanover, 1820s-1840s
Large two-door cabinet with a rectilinear body and classical austerity. The front has three recessed panels per door, with two additional panels on each side. Made of mahogany veneer over a fir core, this cabinet displays clear, balanced proportions and restrained neoclassical details, characteristic of the work of the architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves (*1788–†1864), to whom this cabinet is attributed. An original inventory label is affixed to the right pilaster: Provenance: Herrenhausen Royal Palace, West Wing, Room No. 7 (?), Inventory No. 63.
