Baroque Trompe-l'oeil Cabinet, South Germany, Mid-18th Century
Rare Baroque cabinet with trompe-l'oeil design: the two-door lower section and the two-door upper section are designed to resemble a chest of drawers. The upper section is crowned by a small drawer flanked by scrollwork decorations. Fire-gilt bronze mounts, in fluid, asymmetrical leaf-like forms, adorn the front. Crafted from walnut with elaborate veneers and delicate marquetry, the interior features shelves covered in decorative paper. Carefully restored and hand-polished.
