Emperor and Empress - fabrics, lacquered papier-mâché (gofun) glass eyes; accessories fabrics, wood, bronze and metal.Since the end of the 17th century, "Girls' Day (hina matsuri)" also known as the "peach festival" has been celebrated on March 3rd, the peach blossom representing the feminine qualities of grace and kindness.Little girls display refined dolls placed on small five-tiered platforms covered with a red felt carpet. These dolls, which are passed down from generation to generation, are stored away for the rest of the year. They represent figures of the imperial court of the Heian era (794-1185). The set includes 15 figures: the imperial couple; three ladies-in-waiting with the sake set; five musicians; two armed servants, one young and one old, the ministers; the lackeys, one happy, one sad and one angry, under the influence of sake.
