"Charles Blanc (1896-1966) View Of Venice C. 1950. Limoges, School Of Crozant, Dufy, Pompidou...."
Superb gouache by Charles Blanc representing a lively view in Venice around 1950 signed lower right. Size of the gouache alone without frame 60x50cm This is therefore a new work by Charles Blanc, a large gouache representing a lively view in Venice around 1950. Customers who know me know my attachment to this great Limoges painter. We immediately recognize the inimitable style of Charles Blanc, especially in gouache, his very studied touch applied in overthickness by small commas, his powerful drawing and his very typical palette in pastel tones, impossible to confuse this great Limoges painter yet still too little known. Indeed, despite being very well represented in French and foreign museums (Pompidou, Ville d'Avray, Limoges, New York, etc.), despite being part of the Crozant school, because in fact he went to paint in Crozant in the 1930s, Charles Blanc is mainly known by amateurs but very little by the general public. However, his work is considerable and very diverse; his beginnings are influenced by a post-impressionist tinged with fauvism, he then paints Limoges and its surroundings, the Creuse, Provence... then he begins to find a more personal style, he then paints many portraits and still lifes, he will even try cubism, we know of a work that sold for more than 13,000€ in 1997, then from the 1940s/1950s and until his death, his style evolves again, this time towards a work that is always fauvist but above all very poetic, he then uses a lot of gouache but also oil from time to time, he then paints many views of Paris and Venice in a style that is very reminiscent of Raoul Dufy who will be one of his mentors, it is the period when he creates this gouache. Charles Blanc was considered by Louis Vauxcelles as the greatest among the successors of the Fauves; unfortunately his work will fall into oblivion and today only a few amateurs are interested in this great Limoges artist, in my opinion as important as Bichet, Alluaud or other Jouhaud, Jacquement etc... This gouache is in very good condition, delivered in an old baguette. Work guaranteed authentic
