Pascal Ambrogiani (1909-1989) Multicolored Bouquet

Artist: Pascal Ambrogiani (1909-1989)
An explosion of colors, spontaneity and mastery of gesture that have nothing to envy his older brother Pierre.
The work is done in oil on cardboard, it represents a bouquet of expressive and dancing flowers on the support; it is offered in a 1960s frame in canvas and golden rush which measures 87 cm by 72 cm and 65 cm by 50 cm for the painting alone.
In good condition, it is signed and dated 1958 lower right.

Pascal Ambrogiani was born on November 10, 1909 in Marseille, to Corsican parents.
Second boy in a family that will have 6 children.
He began to draw in 1920 and from 1930 tried his hand at oil painting.
In 1934, his future wife, Marcelle Astaud, from an old Comtadine family, introduced him to Vaison-la-Romaine and Vaucluse.
He was immediately captivated by the sites and landscapes of this little Tuscany, whose skies he compared to those of Florence. In 1946, he acquired his studio in Marseille, on the old port, at 2 cours d'Estienne-d'Orves, the former galley Arsenal.
The view is splendid on three facades: the Town Hall, Notre-Dame de la Garde, inexhaustible sources of inspiration.
He traveled and worked in Dordogne on the banks of the Vézère: "The most beautiful country in the world," according to Arthur Miller.
He roamed the countryside with his gear, easel, canvases, colors, and sweated on the motif.
Motif that he sought in Paris on the banks of the Seine, at the Sacré-Cœur, during his many stays in the capital.
Stays motivated by special exhibitions on the left bank, rue Bonaparte, rue Guénégaud.
From the 1980s, he settled on the Right Bank, the Galerie Drouant became his official gallery, rue du Faubourg-St-Honoré, a few steps from the Elysée.
Drouant presents his paintings permanently.
He works in his studios in Marseille, Vaison-la-Romaine, and exhibits in the four corners of the world: in the USA, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Japan, Tokyo, Osaka, England, London, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Holland.
He illustrates books and happily tries his hand at ceramics.
He has a sense of framing; a past master in the art of layout, his works are ordered, architected, structured in such a way that the lines, curves, masses, harmonize.
This is obvious in his landscapes, but he achieves the same feat in painting fish, soft structures and curves if ever there were any. He left a structured body of work with sparkling chromaticism.
A virtuoso of gouache, which he mastered in the manner of oil (his friend Lucien Fontanarosa told him enthusiastically: "you make me want to do gouache"), his landscapes, seascapes, flowers, fish, and fruit are a dazzling flamboyance.
Each canvas is constructed in such a way that the lines, masses, and colors harmonize happily.
In 1989, in his 80th year, in full possession of his faculties, he worked tirelessly in his studios in Vaison-la-Romaine, but he suffered an intestinal obstruction and his heart could not withstand the surgical intervention.
He died on December 10, 1989.
He was notably awarded the Bouches-du-Rhône General Council Prize.
