" Dining Set By Marc Held For Bessière, Ibm Montpellier 1983 "
Dining room set designed by Marc Held for Bessière in 1983, for the refurbishment of IBM's headquarters in Montpellier. The set consists of a rectangular white melamine table with solid beech edges, resting on two cylindrical black lacquered metal and beech legs, and four matching chairs in beech and exotic wood molded in a plywood style. The rounded backs interact with the geometric rigor of the tabletop. Under each seat, a metal piece allows the chairs to be suspended in the openwork openings of the tabletop: an ingenious device designed to facilitate the cleaning of floors in collective spaces, and typical of Marc Held's rational and functional spirit. Designed for IBM, this rare set illustrates the search for furniture that is at once robust, modular, and elegant, at the crossroads of corporate design and domestic furniture.
