Suzanne Leger (le Dorat - 1897 - 1989), Crozant School, Landscape

Suzanne Leger was born on December 23, 1897 in Le Dorat. She began painting at the age of 12. She met the painter Jean Teillet, originally from Saint Junien, whose student she became, and she assisted him in some of his works. She was also a student of Gosselin, well known in Haute Vienne for his regional landscapes. Suzanne made her debut in Crozant in the 1920s, and her paintings illustrate what this small village was able to contribute to Limousin landscape design. In 1927, she moved to Paris, where she lived a few steps from the "Ruche" where she would go every day to meet other painters. She exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants. She won a medal at the Salon des Artistes Français. In her painting, Suzanne Leger does not seek detail but the sensation of a moment. In 1981, she donated 184 paintings and canvases to the commune of Mézières for the creation of a museum in the town hall premises that would bear her name.
