Trained at the Beaux Arts in the studio of Jean Leon Gérôme, whose influence is felt here, Gibert received the Prix de Rome in 1888. In 1889 he arrived for a year at the Villa Medici. Period during which he painted our painting. This painting is in good condition. Note a piece visible on the back which came to correct a weakness of the canvas.
