This 19th-century Sevillian, Spain rosary combines simple yet elegant materials: mother-of-pearl beads linked together with a silvered chain and a finely crafted silvered crucifix.
Rosaries are devotional objects used above all in the Catholic tradition for prayer and meditation, guiding the faithful through a sequence of prayers—most notably the Hail Mary and the Our Father—while contemplating the mysteries of the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary.
The repetition of the beads provides both rhythm and focus, allowing prayer to become a meditative act. Objects such as this not only served as personal aids to piety but also reflected the intersection of art and enduring spiritual practice.
