Imposing solid walnut chest of drawers featuring a curved front with three wide, molded drawers, separated by exposed crosspieces. The straight, rounded uprights are decorated with vertical fluting extending to the feet, giving the whole an elegant balance between architectural vigor and ornamental refinement. It rests on a low apron with a finely carved, curved apron.
The solid walnut top, highlighted by a slight beak, crowns the whole and testifies to the fine work of a regional workshop, probably from the Southwest or Dauphiné.
The gilt bronze keyholes and pull handles, decorated with confronting Chinese figures, illustrate the taste for exoticism "à la chinoise" characteristic of the Regency period. The gilding shows signs of wear. The dovetail joints, visible on the sides of the drawers, confirm their period construction.
Antique restoration on the frame and top, the back redone at a later date. Good overall condition, with a beautiful warm and deep walnut patina.
