"Pair Of Northern Song Dynasty Bowls"
A pair of rounded porcelain stoneware bowls set on a small, short foot typical of the Northern Song Dynasty. The bowls have a thick, glossy black glaze, dotted with matte rust-colored spots, extending from the center to the rim of the bowls. The rim of the bowls is covered with a beautiful rust glaze. The foot reveals the dense, fine-grained, orange-brown stoneware. The rust spots are created by ferrous oxides creating this very difficult-to-obtain glaze called "partridge feather." These two bowls are not entirely identical in terms of the rust-colored spots as well as the diameter of the feet. One bowl has a small foot and is a little more conical. The other has a wider foot, revealing more of the bare stoneware. A must-have for a collection of antique Chinese ceramics.
