The decorative label on one of the frames, reading ‘De Ribatta’ refers to the Spanish painter Juan Ribalta (1597 – 1628), who is best known for his religious scenes. The paintings come from an old aristocratic collection and the original paint layer is covered by a discoloured and matt old varnish, with several little scratches and damages to both paintings and frames. They would benefit from a professional restoration, which will bring out the original colours again.
