This magnificent bicorn is made of black felt, braided with gold, and decorated with a six-turn gold braid, on which is the gilded brass button of the Cent-Suisses. The "Cent-Suisses" were an elite infantry company composed of Swiss mercenaries in the service of the King of France from 1471 to 1792 and from 1814 to 1830. Created by Louis XI, this company existed until 1792, when it was massacred by the revolutionaries while defending Louis XVI at the Tuileries. This elite corps of the kings of France was then temporarily reestablished between 1814 and 1830, under Louis-Philippe, and exported to other kingdoms.
