"Barbizon Victor Dupre Landscape Cows 19th 19th"
19th century landscape by Léon Victor DUPRÉ. This lively landscape of cows drinking from a river is emblematic of the style of Victor DUPRÉ, painter of the Barbizon school. The painting painted on panel bears a trace of signature at the bottom left. Lightening the varnish which has yellowed would allow to find the original more vivid colors. Léon Victor DUPRÉ was born in Limoges on June 18, 1816 and died in Paris on October 30, 1879. He was the pupil of his brother Jules. Their style is very similar. He exhibited at the Salon de peinture from 1839 to 1878. This painting is presented in its original wooden cane frame, gilded stucco, On the back is inscribed the name of the painter as well as a number: 55 which perhaps corresponds to an inventory number for an exhibition.
