Thomas Beach Circle (1739-1806) - Oil On Canvas Portrait Of Hannah Hass
A sensitive and subtly colored 18th-century English portrait of Hannah Hass, wife of George Henry Hass Rector. The attractive young woman is depicted half-length within a sculpted cartouche, her body tilted to the left, her gaze averted, lost in thought. Hannah wears a sumptuous gown, ruffles, and pale shades reflecting the influence of the Rococo style. She wears a pale silver silk gown with a full pleated back, in the French saque-back style. Also called a Watteau pleat, after the work of the famous Rococo master, the wide fold of fabric falling from her shoulders is barely visible. The lace cascading from her cuffs is called engageants, and her gathered sleeves are held in place with pearl pendants. Her jet-black hair is curled and elegantly swept back, and she wears no jewelry except for a simple black ribbon tied around her elegant neck. This beautiful painting is offered ready to hang and admire in a quality, recent antique frame. Thomas Beach Beach was born in Milton Abbas, Dorchester, in 1738. From 1760 to 1762, he was a pupil of Joshua Reynolds. A member of the Society of Artists, he later settled in Bath, where his portraits were in great demand. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in the 1780s and 1790s. He painted famous people such as the actors Sarah Siddons and John Kemble. His portraits are displayed in metal boxes in museums around the world, including the National Portrait Gallery in London. High-resolution images on request. International delivery available.
