SUPERB and rare oil on panel by José Mario Pérouse depicting a snowy landscape in Saint-Victor in Auvergne in 1935, signed lower left + located and dated on the back. Size of the painting alone without frame 45x54cm and 59.5x68cm This is a magnificent post-impressionist composition by Mario Perouse from 1935 depicting a character in front of the church of Saint-Victor in winter under the snow; Saint-Victor is a small village not far from Murols in Auvergne. Pérouse uses his usual touch, obviously very close to that of his friend Victor Charreton, just like the master he paints the snow admirably, notably thanks to a very subtle palette where whites rub shoulders with mauves, pink, gray, blue, green, ochre etc... so a sublime and rare work by one of the best painters of the Murols school with Charreton, Boudal, Terlikowski and Zingg. Marius Marie Joseph Pérouse, known as Mario Pérouse, was a French painter born in Clermont-Ferrand on May 18, 1880, and died in the same city on June 26, 1956. He attended the Murols School. J. Mario Pérouse was born on May 18, 1880, on rue Saint-Hérem in Clermont-Ferrand, the youngest of six children. He obtained his baccalaureate with honors in 1898: Literature and Philosophy. He moved to Paris in the Latin Quarter, enrolled in the Faculty of Law and at the Special School of Living Oriental Languages ​​in "Annamite language". Mario Pérouse, more attracted to painting than to Law, quickly moved closer to the artists' district and lived on rue Delambre in Montparnasse; he attended the Grande Chaumière and Colarossi academies (where he met Nicolas Dragoúmis). He met Javier Gosé, Demétrios Galanis and Jacques Wély. He spent his evenings on rue Campagne-Première at his friend Bernard Naudin's house "... with whom I quickly became close and revealed to me the mysteries of oil painting, ..." the latter introduced him to Émile Bernard. Muzillac (Morbihan)1909-1913 After joining the Paris Bar, he bought the office of clerk of the Justice of the Peace in Muzillac in 1909. He became friends with the painter René-Juste: "... with whom I worked vaguely and gave me some good advice ...". Mario Pérouse exhibited his works at the Sylvestre gallery, rue Crébillon in Nantes and participated in 1909 in the 3rd Salon of the Union Artistique d'Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand (watercolors, gouaches, canvases and pyrography). On August 7, 1911, Mario Pérouse married Suzanne Le Bœuf in Muzillac, from this union, Hélène was born on July 28, 1912. The family left Muzillac in June 1913 to take over his father's distillation business "Le Goudron Pérouse" in Clermont-Ferrand. 1914-1919 Marius Pérouse was mobilized in 1914 in the 305th Infantry Regiment of Riom as an instructor at the Bourg-Lastic military camp; was at the front on December 25, 1914 in Soissons as a second lieutenant. His courage was rewarded with the Croix de Guerre. In 1916 in the combat zone of Berry-au-Bac, he found Bernard Naudin then Verdun in the sector of Fort Vaux and the Route des Crêtes in the Vosges. Sick and exhausted, he was treated outside the front. Lieutenant Pérouse was granted convalescent leave in 1917 and arrived in Murol(s) in Puy-de-Dôme where he was welcomed by the founders of the Murols School of Painters: Father Léon Boudal and the "master" Victor Charreton, a fan of snow landscapes with whom he remained in contact throughout his life. From 1919 to 1958, Mario Pérouse traveled throughout Puy-de-Dôme to paint landscapes and places steeped in history from life. He exhibited his watercolors and paintings every year in Clermont-Ferrand salons and galleries, but also in Paris to make himself known. He participated in various Salons at the Grand Palais between 1920 and 1932, he hung his paintings in the Marguy, Balzac, Reitlinger, Siot-Decauville galleries... The State bought four paintings from him [View of Auzelles - Snow at Prompsat, Auvergne - Auvergne Landscape (Les Ballats) - Morning Sun in January (Murols)]. In 1921 he created a "fresco" composed of four large paintings for the École Supérieure de Commerce in Clermont-Ferrand. 1922, he entered the Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts in Clermont-Ferrand and declared his profession: Painter. 1923 Mario Pérouse wrote to his friend Ferdinand Brossel: "Tuesday, October 30, 1923 Prompsat by Davayat ... where I rented a small house for the year near the castle of my patron Clémentel, ... ". There he received Armant Point "... he is as beautiful and strong as Claude Lorrain, he opened up completely new horizons for me...". He set up his easel in Normandy in different towns during the travels of his brother-in-law with whom he stayed regularly: Caen, Cherbourg (after the accidental death of his daughter "Ellen" in 1925) and especially St-Germain-du-Corbéis (Orne). He traveled along the banks of the Seine, the Impressionist route, notably in Les Andelys in 1925. He exhibited some paintings at the Foyer des Artistes with his friend Gilbert White. 1928 in Auvergne, he rented the former Récollets convent in St-Amant-Tallende, not far from the Château de la Tour-Fondue bought by Victor Charreton. He brought back paintings from his long stays on the Côte d'Azur: Marseille, Toulon, Cannes, Le Cannet... 1927 and 1935 This oil is in perfect condition, delivered in a contemporary gilded frame.
