Pretty pair of two-light candelabra in chased and gilded bronze with rich foliate decoration. The shafts, surmounted by a flame, hold the arms which curl in fall. The circular bases with pearls and channels, one signed "Eug. Hazart.Paris". Work in the Louis XVI style around 1860-1880. Height: 22.5 cm. A pair of silvered bronze torches from the same period is presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and bears the mark used in the 19th century for the Tuileries Palace. The latter was devastated during the fire of the commune which lasted three days and three nights from May 23 to 26, 1871.
