"Empire Period Gilt Bronze Clock - Bacchus"
Charming gilt bronze mantel clock from the Empire period, early 19th century. Resting on four spherical feet, the rectangular base is decorated on the front with a refined bas-relief representing a reclining Bacchant holding an amphora, surrounded by vines and a barrel of must, symbols of abundance and Dionysian festivities. The circular silvered bronze dial is integrated into a reserve decorated with floral scrolls. Above the movement stands the figure of the young Bacchus, seated, holding a bunch of grapes and a cup. To his right rises a vine stem accompanied by a rake, details that complete the wine iconography. The original gilding has a beautiful patina, and the decorative quality gives the whole all the strength and elegance of the creations of the Empire period. Movement: complete, in working order but not overhauled. The pendulum is missing.???? Please note: the two candlesticks shown in some photos are not included. They are offered separately (see my other listings). Shipping & Insurance: Careful worldwide shipping, professional packaging, and insurance upon quote. Pick-up possible on site.
