Period: 19th century
Dimensions: 51 × 40 × 12 cm
Elegant gilded bronze table clock, richly decorated with allegorical figures and neoclassical motifs.
The rectangular base is adorned with bas-reliefs depicting classical scenes of seated figures engaged in various activities, framed by ornamental motifs of leaves and garlands.
The circular dial features Roman numerals enameled on a white background, surrounded by a finely crafted decorative bezel. The dial is set in a cubic case decorated with floral and plant motifs.
On the left side stands a column topped with a lyre, symbol of the arts and music.
At the top is a blue globe with starry decorations, evoking the night sky.
On the right is a standing winged figure, probably Nike/Victory or a winged Genius, holding a lit torch, symbol of light and knowledge.
This clock belongs to the refined 19th-century production inspired by the Empire/Neoclassical style, in which mythological and allegorical symbolism is combined with the practical function of the object.
