Maurice Vagh Weinmann : Big Painting "the River"

Maurice Vagh Weinmann (1906-1990): "The Stream", oil on panel 73 X 92 cm, mounted in a beautiful Parnassian frame 94 X 112 cm.
Presented "in its original condition", a small scratch at the top of the left house, it would benefit from a light cleaning and varnishing which would bring out the colors even more.
I confess a certain fondness for the Vagh Weinmanns because they were the first listed painters who passed through my hands a few years ago... (Memories, memories!).
Of Hungarian origin like his elder brothers Elemer and Nandor.
Even if they are a little forgotten since their deaths, while they were exhibited in the greatest galleries both in Paris and in the provinces, it remains a powerful and colorful work, bubbling with Slavic energy in the service of more French subjects (they settled in the South-West).
Maurice was perhaps the most classical of all, despite an expressionist approach, his beautiful profession as a painter nevertheless structuring his canvas, as here where the diagonal of the stream winding between the houses and the trees counterpoints that of the light. Small detail: the copper jug used to draw water is waiting upside down on one of the stakes...
