"Japan - Rare Pair Of Large Satsuma Earthenware Vases - Meiji"
Spectacular and very pretty and rare pair of large Satsuma earthenware vases, hexagonal in shape, swollen with a constricted neck. They are finely decorated in polychromy and gilding. The decoration is in very light relief and represents on one side, samurai in armor following their Damyo on horseback, and on the other side, dignitaries discussing among themselves. The handles are in the shape of young seated boys holding a knotted rope in their hands. Presented on stepped oak bases. It is very rare to be able to come across a real pair of this type of vases. Origin: Japan - Satsuma. Period: Meiji era (1868-1912). Dimensions: Height: 107 cm; Length: 60 cm; Width: 45 cm. Conditions: Very good general condition of the set except for some chips on the base of one of the vases.
