Frederik Anton Kievits was born in Bogor, Java, on September 10, 1887 and died on July 17, 1951 in The Hague. Painter and draftsman, he lived and worked in Indonesia in the 1920s and 1930s. From 1930, Kievits presented solo exhibitions of paintings notably in Jakarta, at the Kunstzaal & Co. In 1938, he participated in the prestigious Bondscollectie' in Jakarta - organized by the Dutch Colonial Bataviasche Kunstkring formed to present works by Dutch painters born in Indonesia. During World War II, he was interned by the Japanese and held in a concentration camp. In 1949, he held another solo exhibition in The Hague at the spectacular Panorama Mesdag.
