Pair Of High Relief Carved Panels: Jesus And The Virgin Mary, Late 19th Century

Spectacular pair of oak panels carved in very high relief in the manner of cameos.
These two oval panels are very large and of beautiful carving quality.
They offer a pendant representing Jesus and the Holy Virgin. Jesus is represented with his face turned to the right, this carved face stands out clearly from the background and we can clearly see his bifid beard from the side.
His long, curly hair, he is dressed in a loose coat. The Virgin Mary, the pendant, has her face turned to the left and is wearing a veil with a very studied drapery.
The two profiles stand out from the background with a rounded edge carved around the perimeter. The two panels are framed by a worked bronze frieze bearing at the top a Louis XVI knot, each with a solid hanging ring on the back.

Very beautiful patina of the meshed oak. No restoration to report except for reinforcements on the back of Jesus.

A very beautiful pair of large oval carved panels presenting beautiful profiles in a rather atypical way.
