Europe, late 19th – early 20th century
Two tailor’s busts in papier-mâché and wood, set on black-painted cast-iron tripod bases with adjustable height. Their entire surface is covered with a dense collage of chromolithographic cut-outs depicting elegant ladies, children in play costumes, flowers, and genre scenes.
Executed in the decoupage technique and finished with a protective varnish, the mannequins transcend their original functional purpose, becoming refined decorative pieces that embody the Victorian taste for ornament and applied arts at the turn of the century.
Dimensions: height of the busts alone cm 76 and cm 86; total adjustable height from approx. cm 170 up to cm 175.
