"Folk Art: Cathedral-shaped Display Case"
Amusing display case in carved wood, representing a cathedral facade, 19th century period. Architectural facade in carved wood; painted gilded, (general wear of the paint), which has 9 openings of different shapes. Two lateral pinnacles and a central bell tower, removable supporting a pinnacle surmounted by the rooster of Saint Peter. Height of the central pinnacle: 32 cm. Each opening has an old glass. As an indication, some dimensions: Diameter at sight of the central rose window: 10.5 cm. Height at sight of the 3 lower openings: 13.5 cm. The back has 4 doors, rustic closing by a pivoting piece of wood; as well as a central drawer invisible from the main facade: probably a hiding place. Interior painted in a bright blue, later painting, which reinforces the beautiful patina of the whole. Side panels also carved, with 6-branch rosette motifs. Molded plinth at the base. No doubt, the craftsman behind this work was inspired by the architecture of cathedrals, by devotion? Perhaps with the aim of collecting objects of a religious nature? ... Or a commission? ... I leave you to your imagination. Hypothesis: A succinct and naive resemblance, at least in the lower part, of the facade of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, the spire, although disproportionate, bears a rooster at the top (like the newly restored original). Note: an object as fascinating as it is curious, very authentic. Do not hesitate to contact me for more information, possibility of video by whatsapp. Delivery: 20 € for mainland France.
