"Rosewood And Mahogany Sloping Desk, Louis XVI Style – Mid-19th Century"
Superb Louis XVI style sloping desk, made in the 19th century, in rosewood and mahogany marquetry. Its flap is adorned with a delicate floral decoration in light and stained wood marquetry, framed by an oval rosewood medallion, itself surrounded by mahogany leaves arranged like butterfly wings. This refined ensemble is enhanced by a discreet marquetry fillet, elegantly highlighting the contours of the decoration. The flap, equipped with a functional lock with Louis XVI entrance topped with a ribbon, is accompanied by its finely chiseled key. It reveals a carefully arranged interior, composed of two small drawers with lentil knobs on each side, surmounted by a large central niche. An ingenious concealed mechanism allows access to a secret cache, cleverly hidden under a sliding plate. The flap is upholstered in new black leather, decorated with a golden vignette and a central motif. The belt of the piece of furniture incorporates three drawers whose front is decorated with geometric marquetry alternating rosewood and light wood in a vertical arrangement. The desk rests lightly on four sheathed legs, finished with brass sabots. An exceptional piece, combining decorative refinement and ingenuity, a testament to the cabinetmaking know-how of the 19th century. **************Period: Mid-19th centuryVery good condition after restoration in our cabinetmaking workshop.
