Set Of Four Painted Silhouette Portraits, France, Late 18th - Early 19th Century
Rare set of four profile portraits, painted in black gouache with highlights, on blue-green tinted paper, presented under glass.
Two men and two women are represented, hairstyles and costumes characteristic of the fashion of the end of the 18th century and the Directoire. More precious than simple cut-out silhouettes, these painted effigies finely restore the details of the faces, hair and fabrics.
Each portrait is presented in a brown net and gathered in a mat.
The set is preserved in a gilded wooden frame decorated with friezes and sculpted palmettes. Good general condition. Wear and patina of time.
Dimensions
Frame: L54 cm; H 31 cm; D 6 cm
Visible area: L 35 cm; H 11 cm
Portraits: L 6.5 cm; H 9 cm
