"Large Plaster Bust - Bacchante - Signed - Early 20th Century, Belgium"
Large patinated plaster bust - Bacchante with bunches of grapes - Signed (Frans... ) - Flanders or Belgium - Early 20th centurySpectacular and expressive, this large patinated plaster bust represents a Bacchante, a figure associated with the cult of Dionysus/Bacchus, her head tilted and adorned with bunches of grapes. The sculpture seduces by its size, its movement, the charm of its dreamy face and the richness of the treatment of volumes typical of the productions of the end of the Art Nouveau period. Acquired in Belgium, this piece bears a hollow signature that is difficult to read, the first name Frans being nevertheless clearly identifiable, pointing to a Belgian or Flemish sculptor active towards the beginning of the 20th century. Beautiful patina. Circa 1920Dimensions: H 65 cm 6 - W 50 cm - D 37 cm - Weight 12.750 kg
