An object of desire for many collectors in Europe and the United States, the works of the famous Hungarian nude painter Maria Szantho (1897-1998) have been popular for almost a century. She was born in Szeged, Hungary, in 1897 and studied in her native country under the tutelage of Kukan Geza. In 1924, the artist began exhibiting her paintings at the Mucsarnok Salon in Budapest, primarily female nudes. Critics note that in her creative work, Szantho was initially influenced by Hungarian artists Lotz and Benczur, but later developed her own original style.
