Charming painting depicting a shepherd, accompanied by his dog, grazing his flock of sheep in a field at sunset. The brushstrokes are energetic, in an impressionist vein.

Signed “Paul Chaigneau” lower left.

Son of Jean-Ferdinand Chaigneau (1830-1906), landscape painter established in Barbizon, Paul Chaigneau (1879-1938) was introduced to painting by his father and distinguished himself in his views of pastoral scenes, sunsets and flocks of sheep.

Some stains to note in the sky.
Small tear at the top of the canvas.
The canvas is partly detached from the frame in its upper part.
A hole to note in the lower right corner.
