Rare and precious oval reliquary in gilded brass, mounted under glass, containing a relic insignia ex capillis Beatae Mariae Virginis (hair of the Most Holy Virgin Mary).
Description
The relic, protected in the center by a decoration in golden paperolles, is accompanied by its handwritten cartouche on paper, inscribed: “Ex Capillis BMV”.
The reverse presents the red wax seal of the ecclesiastical authority, crossed by the silk threads, attesting to the authenticity and integrity of the reliquary. In the center we can see the episcopal coat of arms.
Fine and careful work, typical of the second half of the 18th century.

Condition:
Beautiful condition, sealed intact despite some cracks in the wax, testifying to its antiquity.
The hair relics of the Most Holy Virgin are extremely rare and sought after.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art.
