"Polychrome Wooden Statue Sculpture Of Saint Andrew, Cross, 17th Century"
Large polychrome carved wooden statue, representing Saint Andrew holding a tree branch that will be used to form the cross of his crucifixion, from the 17th century. This statue is in good general condition. Please note: some cracks on the wood, missing polychromy in places (polychromy probably redone later, a piece of drapery on the front is painted black like the wood), accident on the foot, see photos. * The cross of Saint Andrew: A very old tradition tells of the death of Andrew in Patras, where he also suffered the torture of crucifixion. However, at the supreme moment, just like his brother Peter, he asked to be placed on a different cross from that of Jesus. In his case, it is a cross whose transverse crossing is inclined, which was therefore called "cross of Saint Andrew". ATTENTION: FOR DELIVERY CONTACT US WITH CITY AND COUNTRY OF DESTINATION.
