Carved wooden cross, worked in the round.
Work from the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century.
The whole of Christ is finely carved, but particularly in the facial features and the treatment of the hair we find the typical Renaissance style. The raised head tilted backward with its open eyes testifies more to compassion than to suffering. Perizonium with a falling knot, tied on the right. The whole of Christ is painted on a white base plate. The cross seems to have been originally gilded, then totally or partially covered by paint. All the fingertips of the left hand as well as three of the right hand are missing. The two arms at shoulder level are disassembled. A very small wrought iron ring surmounting the cross must have supported the panel bearing the title of the crucified. The wooden base covered with purple velvet holding the cross does not appear to be original.
The total height is approximately 60 cm, the cross alone measuring 51 x 26 cm. Careful and fast shipping.
