18th-century To Early 19th-century Print On Fine Fabric, "the Path To Fortune," By Voyez And Baudoin

Artist: Nicoles Joseph Voyez & Pierre-antoine Baudoin
A rare fabric print from the late 18th century or very early 19th century.
It depicts a romantic and theatrical genre scene typical of the Rococo style. It depicts a young dancer preparing to dance before the host (seated on the right in a dressing gown) under the admiring gaze of a music master holding his violin. The title and composition satirically allude to the use of charm and spectacle to advance one’s social standing.
Created in 1778 by the French engraver Nicolas Joseph Voyez (known as Voyez the Elder or Voyez the Senior), based on an original gouache by the libertine painter Pierre-Antoine Baudouin (1723–1769).
The print is in good condition, though slightly stretched.
Louis-Philippe frame gilded with gold leaf and bubbled glass.
Approximately 31x36 cm.
