Polychrome Wood Pope Statue
Beautiful and rare religious statue in polychrome wood representing a Pope in liturgical habit and wearing the papal tiara. This high hat, in the shape of an ogive, surrounded by three superimposed crowns, expresses and symbolizes the triple power of the Pope: the temporal, spiritual and jurisdictional power. The tiara is part of the Vatican coat of arms and the emblem of the Holy See. This statue is of remarkable quality and presents a very beautiful work of sculpture. The face with round eyes, framed by a thin beard, the yoke with harmonious folds, the right hand in the gesture of blessing, the left holding the pastoral staff (unfortunately lost) ... all these details give the character a great expressive force. The polychromy is still very present, despite the wear due to time.
