Orfeo Tamburi was a painter active between Rome and Paris. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, he immediately began exhibiting in Italy and abroad. After the Second World War, he settled in Paris, where he developed a refined style, known for its urban views, architectural foreshortenings and intimate atmospheres.
The proposed work consists of the definitive painting (size 65x49 cm, framed 78.5x62.5x4 cm) and the preparatory study, executed in watercolour and tempera, (size 34x26.5 cm). These two works show Tamburi's creative process, from the study, which is lighter and focused on the basic structural and chromatic definition, to the definitive work, where the artist intervenes with more impasto, a richer palette and a material rendering that gives the work its full expression. The chosen subject shows Tamburi's typical interest in urban views, focusing on buildings, rooftops and alleys. The city in this work is Paris. These works speak of everyday life and lived urban views.

Both works are signed in the bottom right-hand corner, and are filed at Galleria Gioacchini with the respective archive no.: 3111GG and 3112GG. The state of preservation is excellent.
