Attributed to the circle of Giacomo Raffaelli (1753–1836)
Diameter: 5 cm
Circular micromosaic composed of extremely fine glass tesserae on a gilded metal support, depicting three doves on a grassy slope against a deep cobalt-blue background. One dove, wings open, gently offers food — perhaps a pomegranate seed — to its companion, in a tender and affectionate gesture. The composition recalls the classical Capitoline Doves, a popular motif in neoclassical Rome.
The delicate modeling, refined chromatic transitions, and painterly treatment of the birds suggest a connection with the workshop or circle of Giacomo Raffaelli, the most celebrated micromosaic artist in Rome during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
A decorative border of white and black geometric tesserae frames the composition. The reverse shows traces of previous mounting, possibly from a snuffbox or medallion.
